2014 General Elections and Xiaomi’s entry into India most talked about topics on Facebook in India this year
After Yahoo and Bing’s 2014 round-up lists, Facebook too has got in on the bandwagon. The social networking giant has launched a dedicated website for this purpose, and it reveals the most discussed topics globally and locally.
As far as India is concerned, Facebook lists the most-talked about places and the checked-in places in the country. In 2014, people checked-in at India Gate, Taj Mahal and Marine Drive the most, while the most-talked about topics in India this year were the 2014 General Elections, Indian Premier League, Mars Orbiter Mission and Xiaomi’s entry into India.
Xiaomi entered India in July with the Mi 3 and since then has created a storm through its flash sales on Flipkart. All its devices get sold in seconds (or maximum an hour). Xiaomi recently launched the Redmi Note that is now being sold on Flipkart every Tuesday, and is attracting a similar frenzy.
Facebook also reveals the most talked-about global topics, which included some of the year’s biggest news stories, sporting events, and social media crazes. The Football World Cup, not surprisingly, topped the charts for the most talked-about topic worldwide. Ebola outbreak and the death of comedian Robin Williams were also a cause of much conversation.
Furthermore, Facebook listed the best games of 2014, and Cookie Jam topped the list. Bubble Witch 2 Saga and Candy Crush 2 Saga followed suit.
