After what has seemed like a long wait, Google has started rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update today. Five months after unveiling the latest Android version, it announced the roll out on its official blog.

Google hasn’t revealed exactly which devices will be getting the update, but the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 tablets are expected to be the first to get the update. Along with the tablets, the Nexus 5, Nexus 4 smartphones as well as Google Play Edition smartphones too will be getting the update.

At the time of filing the story, the update had not arrived on our Nexus devices, but Google is known to steadily roll out major updates, so we will keep our eyes peeled. Though your device will automatically notify you when the update is available, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings->About phone->System Update->Check Now.

Android 5.0 Lollipop is one of the biggest Android updates bringing with it a host of features and improvements. One of the first things you will notice is the design overhaul, which Google calls Material Design. With the overhaul, the UI is a lot smoother, graphics rich, and responsive with rich animated touch feedback including nice ripple touch effect. Additionally, other features include better Notifications, Battery Saver, better connectivity, and improved security, among others.

With the roll out started, other OEMs like Motorola, HTC, and Sony among others have already promised the Lollipop update on their devices.
