Earlier this year, before the launch of the Galaxy S5 we came across various leaked screenshots of what was claimed to be Samsung’s new custom UX. While the company did release a revamped version of the TouchWiz UI on its flagship smartphone, it wasn’t the same as the leaked photos. Turns out, Samsung is still working on a new UI, which could be the successor of the TouchWiz.

Samsung recently filed a patent at Korean Intellectual Property Office, and the first images of this UI dubbed “Iconic UX” have now surfaced online, courtesy ofGalaxyClub.nl. The photos seen in the patent filing are quite similar to the leaked screenshots we saw earlier this year.

Judging by the photos, the new UI will allow users to interact with various elements by swiping across the screen. You can even expand or contract different homescreen widgets using two-finger gestures. These widgets include calendar, music player, photo gallery and more. The overall design has an uncanny resemblance to Samsung’s Magazine UX offered on the company’s Android tablets.

There is currently no word on when Samsung plans to release the new version of the UI, but if we were to hazard a guess it would be sometime next year. It makes little sense for the company to release an all-new UI months after launching a revamped TouchWiz UI. Chances are the new UI will be offered on the Galaxy S6 that will launch next year.
