In addition to the graphical revamp, the Gmail 5.0 app will finally allow Android users to add non-Gmail accounts such as Yahoo and Outlook to the email client. According to Android Police, users will be able to read and answer emails from their non-Gmail accounts.

If the Gmail app does indeed offer this functionality, users will finally don’t have to bounce between different email apps to get the job done. Though, it’s not necessarily a good news for other email clients makers like Outlook, and Mailbox, as users will find less incentive to use their email clients now. If Gmail brings these features to its iOS client, Apple’s barely passable Mail application will also find stiff competition from it. It remains to be seen how sophisticatedly Gmail manages other email accounts, and whether it will offer all the features that it does while accessing a Google account.

The other noticeable change the new update brings is the major graphical overhaul. As part of the Android Lollipop update, a plethora of apps are now embracing the Material Design philosophy. Gmail is also adding that with the new v5.0 update.
