Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Day’ sale nets $100 million in 10 hours

Flipkart’s ‘Big Billion Day’ sale kicked off earlier today, wherein the site promised discounts and offers across a range of products. While the whole experience was anything but smooth for buyers, Flipkart has issued a statement declaring the sale as a massive success.

“The Big Billion Day is an unprecedented day for us as this is the biggest sale ever in India. We are delighted by the overwhelming response from our customers since 8AM today,” Flipkart co-founders Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal said in a statement. “With a range of exciting offers on quality products at disruptive prices available throughout the sale period, we have created history in Indian e-commerce.”

The Bansals also revealed that they had achieved the target for the day crossing $100 million in total sales in the 10 hours. In terms of traffic, the site got a billion hits today. They however also acknowledged the problems that buyers had to face throughout the day.

Our technology team has been dedicated towards addressing errors and providing constant support to accommodate the largest scale of traffic and customer visits e-commerce has witnessed across the country,” they said.

 

Buyers today had to face a range of issues while purchasing online things online. The issues ranged from crashing website, error messages and payment issues. Many took to Twitter to vent out their frustrations and also took jabs at the e-commerce giant
