Cristiano Ronaldo becomes first athlete to reach 100 million likes on Facebook
Two-time FIFA player of the year, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo has overcome another milestone, but this time it’s got nothing to do with sports. The sports sensation has become the first athlete to get 100 million likes on his Facebook page. The only person to reach this milestone is superstar Shakira.
Shortly after achieving the 100 million likes, Ronaldo released a statement and a video thanking his fans. “I’m so honored to have reached 100 million likes on Facebook. It’s amazing to achieve this incredible milestone and connecting with all the fans around the world. Their outstanding support inspires me and I thank them all,” he said.
The second best in athletes to compete with Ronaldo on Facebook is Lionel Messi who is still 26 million likes behind the sportsman. Musicians Eminem (96 million) and Rihanna (90 million) are the next two icons who are poised to hit nine figures on Facebook. Ronaldo’s most popular post on Facebook with 3.4 million likes was a photo with his son celebrating Children’s Day. Additionally, his Facebook posts since 2009 have collectively generated 232 million likes and nearly 10 million comments.
Even on Twitter, Ronaldo sits the throne with 30.5 million followers, the most for any athlete so far. He is 10 million more than Brazilian soccer player Kaka, who ranks second. Ronaldo was also the most searched player on Google during the World Cup fever in June.
