Apple iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus go on sale in India, fanboys queue up

Apple’s much waited iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have arrived in India. Just like in the US and elsewhere, retailers started selling new phones at midnight. We were at High Street Phoenix in Mumbai, one of the venues where Apple had set shop for users to grab the device. As expected, fanboys lined up before the launch, even at this odd hour, in anticipation to grab the device. Apple had ensured that sufficient devices are stocked up to meet the demand for the device. Apple had shipped about 50,000-55,000 units to India ahead of the launch to prevent last year’s mishap where the gold variant was out of stock for weeks after the launch.

At the Apple Store in Phoenix, Bela and Abha Raja from Carmichael road were the first ones to buy the iPhone devices. They bought six devices for the entire Raja family. “We have bought six 64GB variants for the whole family. We’ve got the iPhone 6 for the ladies and the iPhone 6 Plus for the men in the house.” Bela Raja also opened up about her love for Steve Jobs and how she has always been an owner of the iPhone since its inception.

Retail outlets Croma and The Mobile Store also began their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus sale at midnight. Kaushik and Supriya More from Parel were the first ones to buy the device from Croma.

Most customers were seen buying the iPhone 6 model as compared to its larger counterpart. The 64GB model was the hot favorite among the initial crowd at the Mumbai venue.

Even though Apple fans were seen lining up outside the store, the frenzy was not as much as last year. Last year, when Apple chose to begin its sale at 5PM and long lines were formed hours before the launch. The grand setup that was seen at the same venue last year was missing this time around.

However, in Delhi, people were out in large numbers to buy their Apple device. Massive queues were seen outside Imagine in Saket and the other chosen retail

Those who pre-ordered the smartphones earlier this month will also be getting their smartphones starting midnight. Amazon India is already said to have shipped the first batch of smartphones to buyers who pre-ordered. Apple is also selling the device through various retail outlets in 24 other cities including the ones mentioned above.

To recap on the pricing, the iPhone 6 16GB variant is priced at Rs 53,500, which is the same price tag at which the iPhone 5S was launched last year. The 64GB variant is priced at 62,500, and the 128GB variant is priced at Rs 71,500. The prices for the bigger iPhone 6 Plus start at Rs 62,500 for the 16GB variant. The 64GB variant is priced at Rs 71,500, while the 128GB variant is priced at 80,500.
