After the launch of the iPhone 6 and the Apple Watch last month, Apple is now gearing up for its October event where it is expected to announce  the next-gen iPad Air 2. However, before the official event, Bloomberg has leaked that the tech giant will have a gold variant for the 9.7-inch iPad Air 2 to match the color parity of its smartphones.

Citing sources familiar with Apple’s iPad launch plans, the report states that the company is looking to bolster tablet sales by adding a gold rear case choice to existing space gray and silver color options to the iPad Air 2 when it debuts at the event. The gold iPad Air 2 is expected to feature a white faceplate identical to Apple’s gold and silver iPhone versions.

The gold colour option was first introduced with the iPhone 5S last year, and was quite a hit with customers. The company had to bump up production to meet the rising  demand of the gold variant. Apple hopes for the same reaction with its iPad sales. The report says that sales of the iPads have declined for the past two quarters after soaring from $5 billion when the product was introduced in 2010 to $30 billion in 2012. Last year, iPad sales produced $32 billion.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air 2 is rumored to feature a slightly thinner body, a Touch ID fingerprint sensor, 2GB of RAM, and a faster A8 processor. Reports of Samsung making the displays for the iPad have also surfaced. Additionally, Apple is rumored to unveil the bigger iPad Pro at the event which will reportedly sport a 12.9-inch display, an advanced A8X processor and high-resolution display. However, several reports claim that iPad Pro won’t be out until next year.
